Feature Resident Interns: Cheyenne and Rhianna

Cheyenne Taylor, age 16 years old: “I was born in Queens NY and shortly after moving to Eastern Pennsylvania. Then my family moved to South Florida in May 2012.Since I moved to Florida I went to school online and didn’t meet a lot of people. Then after my first few years I first volunteered for the YMCA in December of 2016 and to know have an internship and meeting new people is an amazing experience.” Cheyenne is a resident of Northwest Gardens, a volunteer Garden Leader for the Northwest Gardens community gardens, has taken part in the YMCA College Tour and is now interning with the YMCA as a Community Health Intern for the summer.

Rhianna Townsend, age 15 years old: “My name is Rhianna Townsend, I am 15 years old. I attend Ft Lauderdale High School. In this upcoming school year 2017-2018, I will be a Jr. I am a part of the Pre- Law magnet program. I strive to maintain As and Bs. I am currently a member of JROTC and drill team which prepares me for the Navy. In college, I will major in physics that will prepare me to be a mechanical engineer.” Rhianna is a resident of Dr. Kennedy Homes Apartments, a winner of the Sistrunk Soup, a monthly micro-funding event for talent and community projects, and is now also interning with the YMCA as a Community Health Intern for the summer.

Cheyenne Taylor, age 16  and Rhianna Townsend, age 15  have been interning every Saturday at the Northwest Community Gardens.
